Your Web Business

To make money on the World Wide Web you need
     1) a product that people want and are searching for,
     2) a portal (a virtual doorway to your Website or blog),
     3) access to the portal through advertising, pointing Web
          visitors to your site, and
     4) a way to provide the product to the paying customer.

A Product

Decide what you are going to sell. The category you might choose could be:
     Informational Product.
     Purchased Retail Product
     Manufactured (by you) Retail Product
     A Service

A Portal

Choose a domain name to let the World Wide Web know what you have to offer.
You can check on the availability of any name easily by going to Nameboy.com and submitting your ideas.

Investigate hosting services. They can range anywhere, generally, from $0 to $25 per month. The free hosting services (you can do a web search under that name) may pan out. You could get lucky. Some are hard to navigate and harder still when it comes to setting up your site and email.

GoDaddy.com is a reasonably priced domain and hosting provider and they have very good service although they do not have a toll-free support phone number. (Click on the banner below near the end of the page.)

I have used several free host sites and I have also had great success with a very reasonably priced and reliable hosting service. CreateAShoppePLUS.com is a wonderful hosting service. Not only is it super easy to set up your site, but they have excellent support help if you run into a snag and an easy cart set up if you have products that require shipping. (Click on the banner below near the end of the page. To see an example of one of their sites, go to: http://www.CountryKitchenCountry.com).

You may decide to design your site yourself, or you can get software to help you. For a free copy of Your Free Website Builder, click on Free Website Builder at the very bottom of this page.

After your site is designed, keep a three-ring binder with printouts of all your pages on the site, especially product pictures and prices, vendor information and sales receipts. Back up all your information on a CD.

You can boost the conversion rate (when a looker becomes a paying customer) on your site by adding a virtual salesperson who will walk out onto the site and talk to your potential customer. Click here to find out how you can boost your website traffic and sales with an attractive salesperson who talks about your product.

Advertising: Directing Traffic to the Portal

The most important component is advertising so you can start getting traffic, visitors and customers. Pay-per-click ads are effective but can get expensive very quickly. There is a way to eliminate those costs. For more information on how to do this, click on Google Ads For Free at the bottom of the page.

Providing the Product:

If your product is electronic, such as an e-book or e-report, you can send the product electronically to the customer.

(Consider Amazon’s Kindle. It is a portable reader device that wirelessly downloads books using an electronic paper display. If you are selling e-books, you could refer your customer to Amazon’s tremendous book selection with this method of transmittal through your Associate link on your site. See the banner below.)

If you stock a product yourself, this will necessitate implementing a shipping procedure and investigating the least expensive method of shipping, unless your customer wants a product faster than normal.

If you are ordering products through a manufacturer or a vendor who stocks the products, you may be able to use drop ship, which means that the vendor will ship the products for you from their facility usually at no additional cost to you.
